CARO Liddell, painter, sculptor printmaker and photographer is a descendant of Alice Liddell, the inspiration for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Like her erstwhile aunt, Caro managed to reflect family history by starting a career in the arts in reverse. In the early 80’s, as a self-taught print maker with work based on Australian bush travels, some with revered bushman Bill Harney, she drew the attention of Rebecca Hossack Gallery in London and journalist Dalya Alberge of The Guardian. After several successful shows with Rebecca Hossack Gallery, Caro applied for the MA course in European Fine Art hosted by Winchester School of Art in Barcelona, Spain. Despite not having a BA, Caro was accepted to the course and awarded the MA. Now, she found the confusion started as she had no BA to show for her MA, so she logically applied for and was admitted to the BA course at Winchester School of Art.
Throughout the 90’s Caro continued to show with Rebecca Hossack and other London galleries.
In 2001, after being awarded a residency at the Arthur Boyd Trust Bundanon, by Simeon Kronenberg, Caro and her husband found the calling of Australia too strong and moved to the Northern Rivers Region on the east coast. Caro was taken up by Fox Galleries in Brisbane, as well as The Byron Bay Writers Festival, The North Coast Sculpture Show and Joel Fine Art during the past 20 years.
Caro, her husband and two beloved dogs live on a small farm in the Northern Rivers Region. Caro has spent the last four years focussing on new work based around her unique and radical form of printmaking which she hopes to show in early 2021.
